Rewarded Review

I commend Serenity Kids for continuing to roll out healthy options with low sugar root and other veggies and healthy amounts of fats and protein. The ingredients in this packet are excellent, and the flavor is good. I think it's far basic than their chicken with peas and carrots and it's a good alternative to the chicken with parsnips. But overall I prefer the chicken with parsnips. Problem with that one is there is so much lemon juice in it that it's too acidic for my sensitive digestive system most days. Back to the coconut chicken curry, I am a lover of Thai food and have a lot of experience with Thai food. I would not say this exactly tastes like a Thai curry. The lime juice is a nice touch and is yummy. The little bits of chicken are reasonably tasty. I didn't really pick up on the ginger, which is okay by me, and I also couldnt really distinguish the taste of lemongrass, which is disappointing. But the real reason this will not become a staple for me is that the cumin, despite being the last ingredient listed, overpowers every other ingredient. And it's not a flavor I associate with Thai curry. Coriander, yes. Cumin, no. A smidge of cumin wouldn't have been bad, but when the primary taste that comes through in the finished product is cumin and its supposed to be a Thai chicken curry, they have missed the mark. If they were to remove cumin from the recipe or dramatically reduce it's presence so it blended with the other seasonings rather than taking over I would definitely be a huge fan and would incorporate this as a new favorite. If you're paying attention, Serenity, thank you for continuing to provide interesting new recipes from a brand I can trust whole heartedly and that contain no added sugars, minimal natural sugars, and some truly nutritious foods. But even for adults the seasonings need to be a little more delicate. I'm not talking about heat. I love a little heat from many different types of peppers (but not cayenne, despite its popularity), and I love flavorful foods. But I want to be able to taste the primary ingredients without struggling, and I don't want to get the impression that one very dominating spice was selected to perhaps compensate for lack of flavor from other ingredients that, if they are high quality fresh ingredients, can virtually stand on their own. No need to cover up their taste with massive amounts of a single spice that throws the recipe off balance. I will most likely still repurchase this, but it will not become a frequent purchase unless the formula is adjusted so it tastes more like a Thai curry and less like middle eastern food (which I like, but not when I'm expecting a Thai curry).
